Social Justice
What follows is a personal manifesto regarding my stance on issues related to social justice and how I see my role in that work. If it is of interest, please read on...
As an individual for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Justice and Belonging (DEIJB), my personal mission is to actively address systemic barriers within society that impact students, teachers, individuals, schools, families, organizations, and communities. I advocate for justice and work to reduce disparities through activism and service learning, especially in areas of ethnicity, sexuality, gender, and class.
In my roles as a counselor, educator, and parent, I incorporate social justice principles into daily practices. I strive for self-awareness and challenge my biases, contributing to personal growth and the dismantling of systemic barriers.
Building relationships within the communities I serve is paramount. I aim to establish connections based on trust, respect, and collaboration, centering marginalized voices and ensuring inclusive decision-making processes.
I am dedicated to confronting institutional barriers in education, advocating for inclusive practices, and engaging in policy development for systemic change that benefits marginalized communities.
Passionate about creating anti-oppressive curricula and programming, I use education as a tool to challenge biases and foster empathy and social change.
My mission is to actively promote social justice, reduce disparities, and foster equitable and inclusive communities. - AC
