Social Justice
What follows is a personal manifesto regarding my stance on issues related to social justice and how I see my role in that work. If it is of interest, please read on...
Core Mission and Advocacy
As an individual advocating for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Justice and Belonging (DEIJB), the mission is to actively address systemic barriers within society that impact students, teachers, individuals, schools, families, organizations, and communities. Justice is pursued through activism and service learning, particularly across lines of ethnicity, sexuality, gender, and class.
Everyday Practice
In the roles of counselor, educator, and parent, social justice principles are integrated into daily practices. A commitment to self-awareness, reflection, and challenging bias guides efforts to contribute to both personal growth and the dismantling of systemic barriers.
Community Engagement
Building trust and collaboration with the communities served is essential. Effort is made to center marginalized voices and ensure inclusive decision-making grounded in mutual respect.
Institutional Change
A focus on confronting institutional barriers in education drives advocacy for inclusive practices and participation in policy development that supports marginalized populations.
Curriculum and Program Design
Passionate about designing anti-oppressive curricula and programs, education is used as a platform to challenge bias and promote empathy, inclusion, and lasting social change.
The mission is to promote social justice, reduce disparities, and foster equitable and inclusive communities. - AC
