I provide individualized mental health counseling, including support for stress, emotional challenges, relationship issues, and personal growth. Additionally, I offer specialized secular palliative care counseling for individuals and families facing serious illnesses or end-of-life situations.

2. Who is the counselor?

My name is Adam Clark. I am a mental health counselor with nearly two decades of experience supporting individuals across various ages and backgrounds, both in Japan and internationally. My background also includes roles in adventure-based counseling, experiential education, and organizational development.

3. What is your counseling approach?

My approach emphasizes a personalized path to mental health care, focusing on self-discovery, resilience, and lasting well-being. I integrate principles of mindfulness, trauma-informed care, and unconditional positive regard to create a safe, non-judgmental space for clients.

4. How can I schedule an appointment?

You can book a free initial consultation through the appointment booking page. This session allows us to discuss your needs and determine how we can work together effectively.

5. Where are you located?

I am based in Yokohama, Kanagawa, Japan. Depending on your preferences and needs, sessions can be conducted in-person or via teleconference. I am about 15 minutes from both Ishikawacho and Motomachi-chukagai Stations.

6. Do you offer support for serious illnesses or end-of-life situations?

Yes, I provide secular palliative care counseling, focusing on individuals and their families facing serious illnesses or approaching end-of-life. This service aims to address emotional, psychological, and existential aspects to foster inner peace and acceptance.

7. What is your stance on social justice and inclusion?

I am committed to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Justice, and Belonging (DEIJB). My mission involves actively addressing systemic barriers and advocating for justice, especially concerning ethnicity, sexuality, gender, and class. I strive to incorporate social justice principles into my counseling practice and daily life.

9. What types of clients do you work with?

I work with English speaking adolescents, adults, and families who are seeking support for a range of concerns, including stress, anxiety, relationship challenges, and personal growth. Via teleconferencing I am able to support people on a global scale but my practice is primarily oriented toward foreign nationals (expats), international families, and individuals navigating life transitions in Japan.

10. What can I expect in the first session?

The first session is a free consultation designed to explore your concerns, discuss your goals, and determine whether my counseling approach is the right fit for you. It’s a chance to ask any questions and decide how we might move forward.

11. How long do counseling sessions last?

A typical counseling session lasts 60 minutes, but session length can be adjusted based on individual needs. Some clients prefer shorter or longer sessions depending on their goals and comfort level.

12. How often should I schedule sessions?

The frequency of sessions depends on your needs and situation. Some clients prefer weekly sessions, while others find that biweekly or monthly sessions work best for them. This is something we can discuss and adjust as needed.

13. Do you offer online counseling?

Yes, I provide both in-person and online sessions. Online counseling is a flexible option for clients who prefer the convenience of meeting remotely, especially those living outside of Yokohama or with busy schedules.

14. Do you accept insurance?

At this time, I do not accept insurance directly. However, I can provide a receipt or documentation that you may submit to your insurance provider for possible reimbursement. It’s best to check with your provider about their policies on mental health services.

15. What should I do if I need urgent mental health support?

If you are in crisis or need immediate support, I encourage you to reach out to a local emergency service or mental health crisis hotline. While I provide counseling support, I am not a crisis intervention provider.
